Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to ART in rm. 713 with Mr. Johnson. I am always excited about meeting new students each term. I am here to nurture and guide your creativity. So, relax and enjoyThe following paragraphs will be a brief summary about my class.

My course guides students to open their minds to see what is really out there.  A lot of people draw from memory. This is not a bad thing, but sometimes those memories were established way back in 3rd gradeThis leads to what I like to call "stylized drawing".  An example of this is that picture you did that had puffy clouds, big yellow sun with the lines extending from them, rolling green hills, and the giant flowers.  Now it’s time to leave those memories behind and draw from reality.

Drawing is the basis for my class. Like essays and novels have rough drafts, so do my projects. It is important that they have an idea about what they are going to create. Every project will be accompanied by a drawing. This is their biggest fear, a fear I hope they will overcome. I will teach different skills and techniques, like drawing, painting, paper-mache, sculpting, etc.

My classroom rules are as follows: “THE 4P'S"

  1. BE PROMPT
  2. BE PREPARED
  3. BE PRODUCTIVE
  4. BE POLITE

These 4 rules will be explained and discussed about in our classroom. Along with these rules we have the "LifeLong GuideLines" and "LifeSkills", as well as PBIS (Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be an Ally. These are posted in the classroom and receive special attention school wide.

Behavior in a classroom is a big concern. Disruptive behavior can ruin an entire class from moving forward. It is my goal to run a safe and non-threatening environment, so that learning and creativity can take place. The following steps will be taken for inappropriate behavior.

  1. PHONE PARENTS/GUARDIANS
  2. PHONE PARENTS/GUARDIANS   AND RECEIVE  A CLASSROOM DETENTION
  3. PHONE PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND RECEIVE A SCHOOL DETENTION
  4. PHONE PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND RECEIVE A REFERRAL FOR SUSPENSION

My grading policy is based on objectives and effort. Students who meet the objectives, turn work in on time, and do -their personal best will be awarded the appropriate grade. It is very crucial that you, the parent/guardian check with your child to make sure they are staying on top of their work when they are away from school.

Once again, I would like to welcome you.  If you have questions, concerns, or expertise in an area that might benefit this class please call me.
